Explanation
Shock Transmission Unit (STU_) is a device that has less resistance to long-term movements including temperature changes, creep, and drying shrinkages, and high resistance to short-term movements like breaking forces or an earthquake. The STU has a simple structure of velocity-dependent silicone putty filled inside a cylinder, so that the STU can lock the structure against velocity loads like earthquakes, etc., dispersing horizontal load along the structure.
Shear key has a function as transfering the load of the upper structure of the bridge to the lower structure, sharing the horizontal force that is insufficient in the existing bridge bearing.
By adjusting the space between the upper and lower wedges, the spacg can be adjusted to optimize the onsite situation (Patent No. 102568738), making it possible to set the spacing to be the same as the existing bridge bearing.
